I think it is so important to know your Funeral Director so bit about me.  I am a Hempfield Area High School Graduate, and while in high school I played soccer, tap- danced and was a lifeguard.  I danced in both the Citrus Bowl and Orange Bowl Halftime shows before I went to college.  I went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science from the all women’s school Rosemont College.  I interned under Allegheny County Coroner Cyril Wecht M.D. and ultimately found my spot in human organ transplant.  I dedicated the next 18 years to learning the in’s and outs of this unique field, and served in many facets of it including recovering organs and tissues for transplant and research and education, serving as a transplant coordinator on the donor and recipient side, an active organ perfusionist, and working in surgical device and biotissue sales in the U.S. and internationally.  This was all very rewarding but I wanted to go back to my roots and what spoke to my heart. I felt it was time to give back on a more personal level versus serving the corporate machine, and I wanted to live in the community where I grew up near my parents who gave me the foundation and fortitude to achieve anything I ever wanted to. I decided I was going to attend Mortuary School, and I envisioned myself finding a job at a local funeral home. I began the journey to attend school and became a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. It was time for me to get a job and I found as I was meeting with Funeral Directors, I wasn’t being heard.  I left many funeral homes feeling unsatisfied and empty that I wasn’t treated how I wanted, and knew it didn’t have to be this way. This inspired me to change that experience for you. I was only trying to secure employment, and could not imagine what it would be like if I was trying to care for someone I loved so deeply.  I picked up the phone and called a colleague, Eugene Saloom who agreed on that same single phone call to give me an amazing opportunity to purchase his funeral home in Youngwood, and so it began, with Eugene’s blessing and goodwill. I renovated the existing structure and establishment of Ashley D. X. Nye Cremation Care & Funeral Home Inc. arose.  This is the place you can feel safe, supported, and unapologetically yourself, inside my home.
