Shirley Reed Obituary

Shirley Anna King Reed, 92, of Greensburg died comfortably at her home on Friday, December 17, 2021 with her children and beloved husband of 72 years, Joseph, right by her side. She was born September 16, 1929 in Greensburg to the late David and Florence (Bowser) King.

Shirley met Joseph Reed in Tarrs, PA and together they built their family on a foundation of love.  She was a wonderful homemaker perfecting her rhubarb pie and crafting the most delicious apple dumplings. When she wasn’t in the kitchen or tending to her home, Shirley was in the car going for a ride, always up for a new adventure to find her next piece of Swarovski crystal to add to her extensive collection.

Shirley fiercely and courageously battled cancer and other health conditions, which were inoperable due to her age.  She deeply appreciated all the dedicated wonderful staff of Bridges Hospice who were of great comfort to her during her fight, especially her nurse’s aide, Marian, who came everyday at 8:00 am, a visit Shirley looked forward to daily.  She dedicated her life to helping those she cared for and will be forever remembered for her kind heart and soft spirit that will continue to lead and guide us every day of our lives.

Her daily presence will be most missed by her surviving husband, Joseph Reed; children, Brenda Joyce Reed Millinger of Lancaster, Patricia Ann Reed Havash (Robert) of Pleasant Unity, Kathy Sue Reed Immel of Greensburg, and David Bruce Reed Sr. of Norvelt; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she will be welcomed in her next phase by her two sons, David William Reed and Joseph Raymond Reed II, who predeceased her.

The family wishes to thank Bridges Hospice for their excellent care of Shirley and especially Dr. Larry Plundo whose compassion was greatly appreciated during this most difficult time. Per Shirley’s wishes, her services will include no viewing and a cremation that she and her family entrusted to ASHLEY D. X. NYE CREMATION CARE & FUNERAL HOME INC. 408 Depot St. Youngwood, PA.  To leave an online condolence or memory of Shirley please visit www.nyefuneralhome.com
