Robert William DeStefano, 75 of Greensburg died peacefully Tuesday October 8, 2024 in his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born February 28, 1949 in Pittsburgh to the late Carmen and Helen (Gallippi) DeStefano. Bob grew up in the Homewood-Brushton area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School class of 1967. A brilliant mind coupled with his creative spirit meant that Bob always had a project fixing something or creating something new. Whether it was souping up cars, fixing motorcycles with parts that he made, building a guitar, making costumes for his daughter, or adding intricate detail to his nativity scene, he never ceased to amaze his family with his latest creation. Professionally, Bob made extrusion dies for several companies and in his own machine shop where he ran his own business. Bob also loved to cook, attended culinary school, worked at Westmoreland County Club, and briefly ran his own kitchen. He created dishes, developed his own BBQ sauce, and “Bob-ified” meals he ordered out to add some extra flavor. Eventually he modified his oven to allow a water element to assure his homemade bread had the perfect crust. If it could be created, Bob was going to successfully make it. His sense of humor, kind heart, and spirited personality will always be recalled and missed deeply. Bob is survived by his only and beloved daughter Amy DeStefano and her husband Jeff Bastian; cherished grandsons Colin and Hudson Bastian, fiancé of 21 years Tobi Smith; brothers Carmen M. DeStefano Jr. (Dolores) and James DeStefano (Beth); niece and nephews Christopher, Matthew, and Danielle DeStefano; great-nephews Jacob and Ronan DeStefano & great-nieces Julia and Bella Luna DeStefano. All arrangements are private and entrusted to ASHLEY D. X. NYE CREMATION CARE & FUNERAL HOME INC. 408 DEPOT ST. YOUNGWOOD, PA 15697.
