Mildred Louise (Shay) Overly, 79, of Herminie peacefully entered into eternal life on Wednesday July 5, 2023 at Independence Health System Westmoreland Hospital with her devoted husband at her side. She was born February 11, 1944 in Hecla where she was raised along with her nine siblings by their parents, the late Charles and Sophia (Drost) Shay. “Milly” as she was affectionately called was a spirited graduate of Hurst Highschool. After a chance meeting in Greensburg while trying to adjust her convertible roof she met Delmar Overly, and the rest was history. Together they built their home raising their children in the Greenville, PA area. Milly was the ultimate homemaker; she exuded warmth, gave unconditional love, and loved to cook. Fond memories of her turning out pizzelles, monkey bread, fried zucchini and canning sweet peaches will forever be remembered, along with her knack for embroidery. Milly was gentle and being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother was the greatest role of her life as she was an endless source of comfort and stability. Her daily presence will be missed so deeply by her beloved husband of 57 years Delmar Overly; her children Joyce Overly (Joseph Melcher) of Brookville and Delmar “Ken” Overly (Colleen) of Mentor, OH; cherished grandchildren Katharine Melcher, Alexis Spray (Scott), Brianna Morr (Brady), and Caylee Rader (Mark); her sweet great grandchildren Riley Gunsalus and Aidyn Rader; and sister Elizabeth Shay of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to her parents Milly was predeceased by eight siblings. Per her wishes there will be no services and all arrangements entrusted to ASHLEY D. X. NYE CREMATION CARE & FUNERAL HOME INC. 408 Depot St. Youngwood. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Milly’s name to The American Cancer Society.
