In Loving Memory of Michael B. Kravetz
Michael Bennett Kravetz of Youngwood, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at the age of 71 and will be forever remembered by those who loved him. He is survived by the love of his life, Natali “Pixie” Talarico; his daughter, Courtney (Austin) Weinman; his sisters, Marty (Michael) Haddad, Beverly (Jim) McMillon, and Deidre “Dee” (Ed) Piskor; his cherished grandchildren, Winston and Cecilia Weinman; and many nieces and nephews.
Michael was born in Pittsburgh to the late Michael and Irene Kravetz and grew up in Chalfant, a place that shaped his deep love for the city and its stories. He had a gift for storytelling and never tired of sharing memories from his youth—hitchhiking up the Pike to caddy at Churchill Country Club, working at Westinghouse Airbrake, and reminiscing about Vincent’s Pizza, Isaly’s, and walking uphill both ways to school. Some of his fondest memories were made with his sisters, especially the mischievous antics they pulled on their mother. That bond—with his sisters—was lifelong, rooted in laughter, loyalty, and love.
Michael was a man who worked with his hands and took pride in what he built. A skilled carpenter and all-around tradesman, he owned his own construction and excavation company, built homes, specialized industrial structures, and left his mark in tangible, lasting ways. He was a determined perfectionist—someone who believed things should be done right, and who never shied away from hard work.
Of all his roles in life, being a father to Courtney was one of his greatest joys. Michael often joked that Courtney was “the son he never had,” not because she filled a role, but because she stood right beside him—learning, building, and working with him from a young age. Before she was ten years old, he had her framing houses, using a nail gun, cutting wood, hanging drywall, laying hardwood floors, and wiring electrical. What he really passed on was more than construction knowledge: he taught her confidence, grit, independence, and the belief that she could do anything she set her mind to.
One of the most remarkable times in Michael’s life happened not through work, but through dance. Country music and line dancing introduced him to the love of his life, Pixie. Over many years they turned from dance partners to life partners, painting a beautiful love story. As they danced through life, they also traveled the world. Their adventures together—whether flying to Hawaii, cruising the Caribbean, or driving their motor home out West—were among the highlights of his life. One of their most treasured places was the Shenandoah Mountains, where they returned year after year, in every season, to soak in the beauty of the park and the peace they found together.
As we remember Michael, we hold close the memories he gave us and the lessons he taught us: to work hard, to laugh often, to love deeply, and to live fully. He was unstoppable in spirit, generous with his knowledge, and unwavering in his devotion to family.
Michael—Dad, Papap, brother, uncle, and friend—you will be deeply missed and forever loved.
