Margaret Harriet Cope Lutz 92 of Hunker, PA, passed away peacefully Thursday May 5, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at the family home. Margaret, affectionately known as “Aunt Hon” or “Peg “was born on January 8, 1930 in Bullskin, Pa. and was the daughter of the late Fedorin Cope and Harriet Ramsey DeArmitt-Shupe-Cope. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Lutz on February 19, 2015. They were married on June 24,1949 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Winchester VA, having celebrated 65 years together. Margaret embraced her role as a homemaker caring for her family, always with a warm heart. She loved gardening, canning, tending to her flowers, reading and swapping books, making afghans for the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Hon loved the Christmas Season, creating everlasting memories every Christmas Eve at home after church with the family she built and loved, opening gifts, and a midnight Christmas meal. She adored fond summer times with family and friends sharing a meal around the campfire at Mountain Pines, and every August, five generations gathering and celebrating the family each year, in her home, a special family reunion she was so happy to host. Margaret carried an unwavering devotion to God and was an active and faithful parishioner of St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Youngwood, Pa where she taught Sunday school, helped with various church activities, and was famously known for her potato salad at the monthly Fellowship meetings.
Her daily presence and sweet spirited personality will be missed most by the family she will watch over and guide from above, her surviving sons Charles A. Lutz of Youngwood, Thomas P. Lutz, Sr. of Princeton, W.Va., and his former wife Cheryl Teets, and Randy L. Lutz and wife Terri of Armburst, her daughter Debra L. Burrell and husband Michael, Sr. of Greensburg; grandchildren Melissa and Willy Barberich, Michael Burrell. Charles and Catherine Lutz , Thomas and Audrey Lutz, Jr. David Lutz and Brittaney, Joshua and Katie Burrell; 10 great-grandchildren Gabrielle, Dominic, Gillian, Addyson, Landon, Gadson, Ashton, Sadie, Cole and a great-grandson to arrive in August 2022; her sisters-in-law Kathy Cope of Oceanside, California, Helen Cope and Marg Lutz of Greensburg; several nieces and nephews. A special niece, Janet, her shopping buddy, who was always there for her; dear friend Millie Giles, who visited and shared stories, played cards, and campfire fellowship. Margaret was the last surviving sibling of ten brothers and sisters, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Melvin Shupe, Cecil Shupe, John Cope, Ernest Cope, Vernon Cope and Roy Cope; three sisters, Lorraine Shupe, Mildred Ansell and Evelyn Young and a grandson.
Friends will be received Tuesday May 10, 2022 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at ASHLEY D. X. NYE CREMATION CARE & FUNERAL HOME INC. 408 Depot Street Youngwood, PA 15697, additional visitation on Wednesday May 11, 2022 from 10:00 am until time of funeral liturgy beginning at 11 a.m. at her church St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Youngwood with the Rev Peter E. Nordby officiating, Deacon Michelle Kunkle, and Assisting Minister her son Charles. Interment will follow immediately in Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
