Lillian Christner Obituary

Lillian Naomi (Weyandt) Christner, 81 of New Stanton, passed peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, after a fierce battle with pancreatic cancer surrounded by her family.  She was born June 13, 1943, in Rochester, PA to the late Archie and Lillian (Schweinsburg) Weyandt. Lillian went by the name Sue all her life and would correct you if you called her anything different.  She will always be remembered as the most devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  She graduated from Hempfield Area High School on June 8, 1961, married her best friend, Richard Christner on June 10, 1961, and turned 18 on June 13, 1961; which allowed her to follow her new husband all over the east coast as he proudly served in the U.S. Navy.  Together for the next 63 years, they were by each other’s side raising their family, working hard, and making countless memories.  Sue began working at Benford’s Cleaners which then became CJ’s Best Way Cleaners before Sue purchased it in 1987 changing the name to the Basket Laundry which she continued to operate from 1987 until May of this year. She also fostered 156 children over a 27 year period, a gesture of her huge heart, she gave a solid foundation to so many children helping them navigate through life’s turns.   She was competitive and determined; conducting board game marathons one might call them.  She would play Parcheesi, Aggravation, Yahtzee, and cards, always keeping score, the best out of three games, and would announce the winner which many times was Sue; even last week she took the gold in the family Yahtzee game.  She loved working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, sudoku, and anything that kept her mind active.  She was a devout Christian and actively studied the Bible.  She had read it in its entirety at least twice and participated in bible study on the phone with her sister regularly.  She was always the boss and always the one everyone went to for advice or the final opinion.  Her greatest role was being a provider and nurturing her family.  There will be everlasting memories of game playing, endless laughs, and just being together.  Her presence will be forever missed, but her sweet spirit and deep love and devotion for her family will remain in our hearts and comfort us.  Sue is survived by her husband of 63 years, Richard R. Christner; her beloved daughter, Rachel Christner, beloved grandsons Devon Hawk and Tristan Bosh; sister Rebecca McCart (Randy); brother Charles Weyandt (Angela); and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents Archie and Lillian, Sue was preceded in death by her brothers; Archie III, James, and William Weyandt.  Please join us to honor and celebrate Sue’s life with a visitation on Friday August 16, 2024 from 4 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m. followed by a white dove release at ASHLEY D.
