John "Jim" Yadamec Obituary

John "Jim" Yadamec passed away peacefully November 11, 2024 surrounded by family.  Born March 21, 1935, he was the only child to Peter and Helen Yadamec.  Jim graduated from German Township High School in 1953, Duquesne University College of Arts and Sciences  in 1957, and then was drafted to the US Army stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky from 1958-1960 .  Jim was a newspaper man at heart, starting his 44 year career at The Brownsville Telegraph, then moving on to the Uniontown Herald Standard / The Evening Standard where he was nightime editor and penned two popular columns "Hunter's Hideaway" and "Fishing with Ike". Eventually Jim finished his career in 2001 at the Greensburg Tribune Review,  where he was sports and outdoor editor. Jim met and spent 57 wonderful years with his true love, Barbara Vig Yadamec.  Shortly after marrying Jim and Barb built a home in McClellandtown, PA and welcomed their two daughters, Beth and Susan into the world.  Jim was an avid sportsman, but his love was fishing.  Whether it be long days with his brother in laws or his two daughters, he found peace with a pole in his hand.  Every year the first week of trout season was a week of vacation from work.  Jim worked hand in hand with the PA Fish & Game Commission and was recognized for his dedication for the Promotion of Outdoor Recreation.  During trout season you could always find him and his girls with buckets of fish helping stock PA streams, but his true happiness came when his grand children Matilyn and Logan were born.  He spent his time singing country music while carrying them up and down the hall, and gave them a small gift everyday for first several years of their lives.  When he was told he was moving across the road from them in 2003, his life was perfect.  Jim has spent his life living and loving his adoring family.  Jim is survived by his wife Barbara Vig Yadamec; two daughters Beth Yadamec (Dennis Fink) and Susan (Matthew) Baumgard; and two grandchildren Matilyn Collins (Braden) and Logan Baumgard.  In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in honor of Jim to PA Fish & Boat Commission 1601 Elmerton Ave. Harrisburg, PA 17110, noting Jim Yadamec in the memo of the check.  Please join us to celebrate and honor Jim's life on Friday November 15, 2024 from 2-8 p.m. at ASHLEY D.
