James Albert Haney, 94 of Hunker died peacefully on Sunday June 1, 2025 at Hempfield Manor. He was born in Smithton on May 2, 1931, and was one of nine children and the last surviving child of the late George and Anna (Johnson) Haney. Jim was a dedicated hard-working man his entire life and had an incredible mechanical mind. He drove truck and was a truck mechanic, and after retirement he enjoyed tinkering and putzing around his home always building beautiful flower and vegetable gardens yearly. He was a proud Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. He was long time active parishioner of Holy Cross Church in Youngwood where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Youngwood Council 8452. Jim was passionate, accomplished and kind, always putting his family first. He was a dedicated father, grandfather, great-grandfather and wonderful husband. He leaves a legacy to his family of the deep foundation he built rooted in love. Jim is survived by his wife and best friend of 40 years Harriet (Firlik) Haney; and his beautiful family of eight children; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased and reunited in heaven with his five brothers and three sisters that passed before him. Please join us to celebrate and honor his life on Thursday June 5, 2025 and Friday June 6, 2025 with a viewing from 1-3 p.m. & 5-7 p.m. at ASHLEY D. X. NYE CREMATION CARE & FUNERAL HOME INC. 408 Depot St. Youngwood. Funeral Liturgy will be Saturday June 7, 2025 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Parish in Youngwood with Rev. Rogelio Rodriguez presiding followed by full military honors and white dove release at Westmoreland Memorial Park.
