Gordon Shurie Obituary

Gordon Merle Shurie, “Moe”, 94 of Greensburg passed at home peacefully on Tuesday November 5, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Latrobe on June 19, 1930 to the late Andrew M. and Lillian (Lochrie) Shurie and was a graduate of Latrobe High School class of 1948.  Gordon owned Westmoreland Tile Company tiling bathrooms and kitchens throughout western PA and went on to be a truck driver for Vanadium Steel and Latrobe Brewing Company where he worked for 25 years.  He had a distinct personality and character traits, always up for story telling, and was very funny.  Adventure called his name, and he loved to travel and camp, usually settling in at Cutty’s Campground, now Mountain Pines Campground in Champion, PA.  When his children were younger he ventured across the country several times including taking them on an unforgettable camping trip to Acapulco, Mexico.  Gordon enjoyed restoring cars; which he was able to work on all year as he was a snowbird, and spent winters at his home in sunny Spring Hill, Florida.  He was a member of Latrobe Methodist Church, and Latrobe Lion’s Club.  Above all Gordon was an incredible father, grandfather and husband.  His dedication and loyalty to his family will always be remembered fondly and recalled often.  His spirit will forever prevail in our hearts as a source of comfort and strength, which he so easily gave to all.  Gordon is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years Lois (Truxel) Shurie; children Lee Shurie (Carmen), Dr. Lynn Remington (Dr. Larry Wei), Beth Chew (Jeff West), and Todd Shurie; step-sons Rick Snyder (Elena) and Robert Snyder (Jennifer); twelve amazing grandchildren; and three very special great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents; Gordon was greeted in heaven by his brother Ronald W. Shurie.  The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Excela Hospice, especially Lisa and Jackie for their tender care and support during this delicate time. Per Gordon’s wishes all immediate services are private and entrusted to ASHLEY D. X.
