Frank Stoner Obituary

Frank W. Stoner, 87, of Greensburg, PA, sadly passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Westmoreland Hospital Greensburg, with his devoted wife, Cynthia and his loving son, Frank at his side. Frank was born in Mt. Pleasant, PA on December 1, 1938, son of the late Dorothy (Kenney) Hoke and Willard Stoner. He graduated from Greensburg High School in 1956. After graduation, Frank and his buddies joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he proudly served his country from 1956-1960. He was promoted to Sergeant and was chosen to work for a Rear Admiral aboard a U.S. Navy ship. He was a proud and true Marine and always valued his time spent in the Corps. Following his military service, Frank had a long and successful career in the Transportation Industry. He was hired first at Brady Motor Freight and then Helms Express, and in 1970, was hired at Hall's Motor Transit as the Pittsburgh Terminal Manager. In 1981, he was promoted to Director of Industrial Relations- Central Region handling labor relations for the company. He continued to advance his career with the company and was promoted in 1985 to V.P. of Operations- Western Region moving to Chicago, IL. where he and his wife lived for 2 years until the company closed their doors. He was then recruited in 1987 by Kingsway Transport, Inc, a Canadian trucking company, to be the V.P. of International Operations and Sales, North Eastern U.S., moving to Buffalo, NY, where he spent 24 years, with the last 10 of those years in retirement before moving back home to Greensburg, PA to spend more time with family. Frank enjoyed life to the fullest, traveling with his job and then after retirement, vacationing with his wife, Cynthia, to favorite places like St. Maarten or St. Thomas, or just visiting friends. He loved to fly fish and fished many streams in Western NY and PA. He was also an avid golfer belonging to clubs in Chicago, Buffalo, and here in PA at Robertshaw Acres where he was a member playing golf every day there wasn't snow on the ground. He was a past member of the Transportation Club of Buffalo, NY, current member of SNPJ Club 223, AMS Club, and Keystone Rod and Gun Club Hannastown, where he was a past Trustee. In addition to his Mother, he was preceded in death by his step-father, William (Art) Hoke, half-sister, Joyce Holmes, and brother-in-law, Scott Ambrose. Frank is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 47 years, Cynthia (Ambrose) Stoner; his son, Frank R. Stoner and wife, Karen; sister-in-law, Barbara Mumau and husband Paul; brother-in-law, Jeff Ambrose and wife, Donna; and sister-in-law, Margie Ambrose, all of Greensburg, PA.; nephews Ryan Ambrose (Tiffany) and Justin Ambrose (Vicki) and their children; Step-grandson, Ray Sylvester (Mandisue); Step-granddaughter, Jamie Reinhart (Wesley); Step-great grandchildren, Samantha Sylvester, Mason and Drew Reinhart. Per Frank's wishes, there will be no visitation. Frank enjoyed his family and many friends and wanted all of you to celebrate his wonderful life with laughter and not tears. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Services will be private with family and is entrusted to ASHLEY D. X. NYE CREMATION CARE & FUNERAL HOME INC. 408 Depot St, Youngwood.
