Eileen (Gorton) Sterba

Eileen (Gorton) Shaffer Sterba, 84 of Hunker (Foxtown) went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday April 25, 2023 at Greensburg Care Center, Hempfield Township, PA.  Born June 10, 1938 in Norvelt, PA, she was the daughter of the late Donald P. and Eva Mae (Miller) Gorton Sr. She was a graduate of Hurst High school, Mt Pleasant Township, class of 1956.  Eileen was a faithful member of St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church 126 N. Fourth Street Youngwood, PA.  She is survived by her children; Cynthia L. (Robert) Lauffer of Youngwoood, Lisa D. (Timothy) Smith of Hunker who resided with Eileen as her caregivers, Edward J. (Lisa) Sterba Jr. of Greensburg; granddaughters Kristin (Mark) Sawinski of Greensburg, Terran (Ray) Myers of Erie, PA; six great- grandchildren; two step grandchildren Noah and Christine Redinger of Greensburg; two brothers Samuel J. (Mary Lou) Gorton of Mammoth, and John M. (Debbie) Gorton of Brookeville, PA; sister Nancy G. (Brooks) White of Mt. Pleasant; sister-in-law Elizabeth Sterba; and many nieces, nephews; and great-nieces & great-nephews.  In addition to her parents, Eileen was predeceased by her first husband, Stuart C. Shaffer, and her second husband Edward J. Sterba of fifty years and the love of her life; son Scott A. Sterba; brother Donald P. and his wife Dolores Gorton Jr.; as well as several brothers and sister-in –laws.  Family and friends will be received Saturday April 29, 2023 from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church 126 N. Fourth Street Youngwood, PA 15697.  Funeral liturgy will begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Peter Nordby officiating.  Burial and white dove release to follow at Westmoreland Memorial Park, Greensburg PA.  In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation on Eileen’s behalf to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
