Douglas Horvath Obituary

Douglas Daniel Horvath, a lifelong resident of Rillton, PA, passed away at home on Thursday, December 19, 2024, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. His devoted fiancée of eight years, Jody, and his (man’s) best friend, “Duke”, were by his side. Doug was 62 years old. Doug was born on January 4, 1962, in Greensburg, PA, to the late Michael and Eleanor (Wilson) Horvath, Jr. He seemed to have a natural gift for fixing things, and when he was still a young boy, his father taught him how to work on engines. This foundation led him to become an exceptional car and truck mechanic, but he especially liked doing autobodywork. Doug graduated with the Yough High School Class of 1982. Eventually, he purchased a large dump truck and started his own business. No matter how busy he was, Doug always made time to helpothers. Whether he was repairing a vehicle for a friend, offering a place to crash to someone who was down on their luck, or lending a hand to someone in need, he always went the extra mile. He wore his heart on his sleeve, and many people knew him for his kindness. When his niece, Jill, lost her husband in 2005, Doug offered to give her $400 for her husband’s old, beat-up work van. He didn’t have a lot of income at the time, and he surely didn’t need another vehicle, but he knew she would need the money. That’s the kind of thoughtful person he was. His family and countless friends will forever remember him as a generous and helpful man, and he leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, dedication, and love. Doug loved the outdoors, and in his younger years, he enjoyed racing cars, hunting, and fishing. Some of his happiest memories were of the times he spent with his brother Paul and other family and friends at Camp Kettle in the Allegheny National Forest. Although he never claimed to be a saint, when his father and sister Julie passed away, Doug did his best to help his elderly mother who lived next door. He and Jody shopped for her groceries and took her to her doctor appointments, and Doug helped with house repairs. Most of all, when he had time, Doug would visit with his mom and keep her company. She was one of the most significant people in his life, and he loved her dearly. Douglas was preceded in death by his father and mother Michael Horvath, Jr. and Eleanor (Wilson) Horvath, brothers Michael David and Baby Mark Timothy, sister Julieanne and her husband George Suchko, and Doug’s nephew Christopher Noble. Douglas is survived by his fiancée Jody DiPerna; sister Barbara and her husband Luke of Colorado; his brother Paul and his wife Melinda, currently residing in Germany; Doug’s nephew Jim Noble of Atlanta, GA, and niece Jill Noble-Shearer of CO; and Doug’s cousin Mitch Ekovich of Herminie, PA. Extended family members Joe Cannon and Joe’s mother Terry of OR will greatly miss “Uncle Doug”. Additionally, he leaves behind manycousins, nephews, nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews and many close friends he considered family. His loyal caninecompanions—Duke’s siblings Xena and Diesel—also shared a special bond with Douglas. The family plans to have a celebration of life service in late spring or early summer 2025—date to be determined.
