Donna Jean (Johnston) Metz

Donna Jean (Johnston) Metz “DJ”, 78 of Greensburg Hempfield Township gained her angel wings on Sunday December 22, 2024 in the comfort of her home.  She was born March 28, 1946 in Greensburg, the only child to the late Elmer and Helen Johnson. DJ was a woman who wore her tender heart on her sleeve, was sharp, and loved caring for others and worked as a specialty nurse her entire life.  She was a graduate of Presbyterian Nursing School in 1966 and went on to get her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Carlow University, and simultaneously worked for Retina- Vitreous Consultants (RVC) while pursuing her studies.  A life of dedication to medicine and her community continued for DJ after earning her BSN, she worked at Presbyterian Hospital in the Surgical Cardiac Unit from 1966-1968 until she ventured into the Ear & Eye Hospital where she found her specialty and remained handing out her gentle care until 1985 as the charge nurse, eventually retiring as nurse for Dr. Bernard H. Doft MD where she assisted with retinal studies and patient care for retinal patients.  A life of selfless service and kindness will be forever be a lasting legacy of DJ, as she was naturally loved by all who knew her.  DJ joined her beloved husband of 50 years and best friend in heaven Charles L. “Chuck” Metz who passed in 2018. She is survived by her sister- in-law Elizabeth Dobrowsky “Honey”, several nieces and nephews, and countless friends including special friends Joan Guthrie, and Sandy J. Robinson who cared for Chuck and DJ.  Per Donna’s wishes all immediate services and interment are private. Please visit our tribute wall to leave a condolence or share a memory of Donna.
