Donald Sherbondy Obituary

Donald C. Sherbondy of Greensburg died peacefully on January 5, 2025 at home surrounded by his family. Don was born on January 8, 1934 in South Huntingdon Township. Son of the late Clarence H. and Alice E. Popp Sherbondy. Don graduated from South Huntingdon High School in 1952. A veteran, having served in the United States Army at Redstone Arsenal NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL. He was a specialist with the Ballistic Missile Association. Specializing as an electronic instrument repairman he worked with the preparation for the first missile launch for the United States as well as many others. He was honorably discharged in 1958. He returned to his employment at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation in Monessen and continued to work as an electronic instrument repairman and journeyman welder until his retirement in 1988 after 34 years. Upon retirement, Don was a substitute teacher for the Central Westmoreland Vo-Tech in New Stanton followed by a courier for the Westmoreland County Community College. He was an avid gardener creating topiaries while maintaining a beautiful lawn. Since 1962, Don was a licensed Amateur Radio operator. He was a member of the Sewickley Presbyterian Church, Bells Mills, West Newton. Don enjoyed many motorcycle trips to Canada and destinations throughout the eastern part of the United States. He enjoyed traveling with his family on yearly vacations. Don has traveled to all 50 states, Canada and Mexico. He also enjoyed refurbishing antique cars. Don was preceded in death by his daughter, Bona Lin Berg in October 2016. Having been married on July 10, 1957, Don is survived and will be sadly missed by his wife and best friend, Sally Pore Sherbondy. Also surviving are daughters, Betty Lou Mansour and husband Mark of Greensburg and Brenda Lea Galaski of Leland, NC., 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
