Derek William Swank

Derek William Swank, 31 of Butler, died on Monday June 19, 2023 at UPMC Passavant Hospital surrounded with love from his devoted wife Samantha and son Jax.  He was born in Westmoreland County on April 24, 1992 to biological parents Earl Swank and Theresa (Uhrinek) Lint, and adopted and raised by parents Carol and Bruce Gray of Yukon.  Derek grew up in Yukon and was a graduate of Yough Senior high school where he built many lifelong friendships. He was an extremely hard -working man, who took pride being a provider and caretaker of his family. He had a heart of gold and could make everyone in the room laugh and feel the “love”, he was very social, always up for the next adventure and carried positivity within himself wherever he went.  Derek loved to press his luck at blackjack, rip on motorcycles, and was always ready to gather everyone for family dinners, and he will always be remembered as the worst cook but the best eater.  His colorful personality, and deep devotion for his family and friends will forever be missed most by his best friend and wife Samantha (Walker) Swank and their beloved son Jax; his parents Carol and Bruce Gray; numerous siblings especially Jennifer Swank who helped raise him; best friends Zach Bruce, Andrew Cyktor, Chad Zowacki, and Tony Weber who were like brothers to Derek; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
