Obituary

Dean Myers Miller, 84, lifelong resident of New Stanton, died Sunday, March 6, 2022, at his home. He was born March 3, 1938, the youngest of six children to the late Jesse James and Alice (Myers) Miller. Dean was a graduate of Youngwood High School, class of 1956, and upon graduation, enlisted in the military. A steadfast worker with great dedication and respect to his flag and country, he was a very proud Marine. He married Donna Jean Smith, his high school sweetheart and prom date, and together they built their family of four children with traditional values in a home built on his beloved Miller farm. Dean was a country boy at heart, a great outdoorsman and loved to cast his reel fishing and hunt, especially in Potter County. In recent years, he was rarely seen apart from his sidekick, Chico, his little Chihuahua, who could be found riding in a basket on Dean's John Deere tractor as he mowed. Dean retired as a security guard from Pitt-Greensburg before which he worked many years at Smith-Blair in Hempfield Township. Often a man of few words, Dean believed in hard work, having good character, and led his family with strength and fierce loyalty. His everlasting spirit will continue to warm our tender hearts as we will miss his daily presence, which left the most profound imprint in our lives. Dean is survived by his companion of 23 years, YeVonne Prah, his children, Diane (Donald) Sommerville, Debra (Robert) Bills, Glenn (Debra) Miller and Daniel (Wendy) Miller; his cherished seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is joined in his next phase by his wife, Donna Jean, who passed in 1992; his four brothers, Glenn, Russell, Bob, Clair; and his dear sister, Mildred Barna. Please join us to celebrate and honor his life with a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2022, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2022, with funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday and full military honors to follow at ASHLEY D.
