Robert Lee Stewart

Robert Lee Stewart, 87, of New Stanton, died peacefully March 9th, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Hundred, W.V., Wetzel County to the late Michael and Laura Sapp Stewart.  From an early age you could find him “digging in the dirt” in the early a.m. to late at night, a love he carried with him throughout his entire life, eventually operating heavy Catepillar equipment; especially back hoes and dozers.  He was an avid outdoorsman, and a Mason of the Masonic Lodge Hundred, W.V.  Robert was a retired pipeliner and member of IUOE Local #66 for many years.  He was dedicated to his family and who will forever miss him.  

Robert is survived by his wife Virginia Haddix Stewart, devoted to each other for 45 years spending 34 of them happily married, his daughters Jennifer (Corey) Mackanick  and Marthea (Rich) Snider. His six grandchildren Makayla, Caitlyn, Tyler, and Brayden Mackanick and Scott and Jeff Snider, as well as a great- grandson Brayden Snider.  He is survived by four sisters, Carol Rhome, Marlene Rhome, Helen Wright, and Patty Butcher.

In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by two brothers, Junior and Ronnie Stewart, as well as an infant sister Faylene Stewart. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Vitas Hospice for their love and care. In lieu of flowers all donations can be made directly to the family for funeral expenses. 

Family and Friends will be received Tuesday March 12th, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at ASHLEY D. X. NYE CREMATION CARE AND FUNERAL HOME INC., corner of Depot & Fifth Streets Youngwood, PA 15697 and Wednesday March 13th at 9 a.m. at Norwin Christian Church Irwin, PA with Service to immediately follow at 10 a.m. with Pastor Joshua Persall presiding.
